The hourglass shape of the bioprosthesis within the ring provides a self-aligning mechanism that leaves minimal footprint in the left atrium and left ventricle and preserves the sub-annular apparatus. It secures the frame to the ring, eliminates the risk of migration and prevents LVOT obstruction.
The valve’s D-shaped cross-section contains a set of pericardial leaflets that assume the function of the native valve and potentially eliminate mitral regurgitation. The short frame and low-crimp profile is ideal for transseptal delivery.
When mitral valve replacement is the required treatment, the AMEND ring and the complementing bioprosthesis are implanted in the same procedure. Alternatively, the bioprosthesis can also be attached to a previously-implanted AMEND ring (repair) in a quick and simple procedure.
