HELIOS VALCARE’S NOVEL MITRAL VALVE REPLACEMENT BASED ON PROVEN PLATFORM TECHNOLOGY
HELIOS is a bioprosthesis that safely and effectively replaces the human heart’s mitral valve. Designed to securely attach to Valcare’s AMEND ring, this implant is the latest development in mitral valve care.
The AMEND ring is implanted as a solid landing zone for this self-expanding replacement bioprosthesis. Once the delivery catheter is positioned correctly within the AMEND ring, the HELIOS bioprosthesis is released and docked to the ring, creating a harmonized valve replacement system.
The shape of the HELIOS bioprosthesis within the ring provides a self-aligning mechanism that leaves minimal footprint in the left atrium and left ventricle, and preserves the sub-annular apparatus. It secures the frame to the ring, eliminates the risk of migration and prevents LVOT obstruction.
The valve’s D-shaped cross-section contains a set of pericardial leaflets that assume the function of the native valve and potentially eliminate mitral regurgitation. The short frame and low-crimp profile is ideal for transseptal delivery.
When mitral valve replacement is the required treatment, the AMEND ring and the complementing HELIOS bioprosthesis are implanted in the same procedure. Alternatively, the bioprosthesis can also be attached to a previously-implanted AMEND ring (repair) in a quick and simple procedure.
